Dear Mote Volunteers,

Mote Marine Laboratory's scientific research has a long-standing history of international reach, partnership and impact. Separated by less than 90 miles the coral reefs, marine biodiversity and broader fisheries resources of Florida and Cuba share many of the same challenges to their long-term conservation and sustainable use. For over 10 years Mote scientists and our colleagues in various Cuban marine research institutions have been growing a research partnership related to key marine species, biodiversity and critical habitats with a goal of developing an integrated science-based approach for conservation and sustainable use of these critical resources.

We would like to invite you to join us for a once-in-a-lifetime Mote Educational Expedition to Cuba. This historic trip is scheduled for December 1-8 to Havana and and the Gardens of the Queen (live-aboard dive boat expedition).

Please find the proposed itinerary of the trip (noting that this is still being finalized) and the required travel form. In order for us to reserve your spot we must receive a $1,000 deposit (non-refundable if you decide to cancel your reservation and non-tax deductible), a copy of your passport and the completed travel form. We have received an extremely high level of interest for this trip and we will be securing reservations with receipt of deposit and paperwork on a first come-first serve basis.

Should you have any questions about our Mote Cuba Expedition, please contact Pamela Siderski at psiderski@mote.org or 941-388-4441 ext. 618.

Sincerely,

Michael P. Crosby, Ph.D., FLS
